Samstag, 29. Juni 2013 | Anthony Fairweather | Europa

Day 6: Rest day

A long sleep and a late breakfast leaves us refreshed and ready to explore Inverness. The afternoon is spent visiting the Glen Ord whisky distillery on the famous Black Isle.

Slàinte mhath!Day 5: Isle of Skye – Inverness

We head out for the world famous Loch Ness and try our luck at Nessie hunting. Long sweeping turns and wonderfully grippy tarmac propel us along the Loch towards Drumnadrochit, the centre of Nessie exporation, where we stop for quick tour of the Nessie museum and bite to eat. A short blast north takes us into Inverness, the centre of the Highlands and our stop for the next two days.

A quick stop on Loch Ness as the skies open.

Meet the welcome comitee for Inverness

Day 4: Ballachulish - Isle of Skye

With Loch Linhe on our left and Ben Nevis on our right we head for our first coffee-break at Inverlochy castle. From there we take the famous “Road to the Isles” and head for the Isle of Skye. Eilean Donan castle (of “Highlander” fame) is our next stop as the sky clears and we cross the Skye bridge onto one of the most beautiful areas of Scotland.  Single trails take us around the island and we head for the small town of Broadford, our stop for the night.

There can be only nine!

The isle of sky in all its glory.

Day 3: Aberfoyle – Ballachulish

Loch Lomond awaits as we take on our first single roads and some of the most beautiful views the Lowlands have to offer. Heavy rain does nothing to dampen our spirits and we press on to a most enjoyable lunch on Loch Foyle, home to some of the best seafood Scotland has to offer. After lunch we head west too the Atlantic ocean where we swing north and follow the coast ‘till our stop for the day.

How about this setting for a morning briefing?

The wild Scotland delivers in spades!

The rain clears and re.veals smiles all round

Welcome to the Atlantic!

Day 2: Helmsley – Aberfoyle

Today we leave England and head across the border into Scotland. We depart Helmsley in beautiful sunshine and head out through the North Yorkshire moors and ride north through the English countryside towards Edinburgh. Bypassing the heavy traffic between Edinburgh and Glasgow we head for the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, an area of stunning natural beauty in the Scottish lowlands. We end the day on the Lake of Menteith with a few whiskeys as we watch the local fishermen head into harbour for the night.

Ready to go!

Daniel, Cecilia and Lupi enjoying a break in a proper English pub.

Can't ... resist..the ...magnetic...pull of...the bar...

English bike, English road, English flowers

On the border. Let the adventures begin!

Paying homage too Scotland's most famous drink (shortly after this picture was taken the tour guide was reprimanded for excessive drooling)

Day 1: Hinckley to Helmsley

We start our tour in Hinckley in the glorious English summer (the rain is lovely and warm).

A tour of the Triumph factory leaves us drooling over some of the most beautiful bikes on the market today (no pictures, all very secret). A quick blast on the motorway takes us to the medieval city of York, where we stop for a wander around the old town. A bite to eat and we hop back on our trusty Triumphs and head for the twisties of the North Yorkshire moors. The skies begin to clear and arrive in beautiful Helmsley, where we finish the with a few drinks in a classic English pub.

Ready to go!

Now we have seen how the bikes ar built, how about we take them for a spin?!

The bikes depart from their birthplace and head out on to the open road.

Coffebreak!

Rain, what rain?

Vitor meets a brother from another mother

The day ends with Michael, our singing tour guide, and just a few drinks
