Tuscany by Scooter 2TU140A

Mittwoch, 8. Oktober 2014 | Domenico Schiano Moriello | Europa

Also this other Tuscany by scooter tour is over, we finished exploring this wonderful region in central Italy!

It was a great tour with people from all over the world... Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, USA (in alphabetical order!), everybody got along very well and there was always a very nice atmosphere! Oh and let's not forget another nationality in our group, Italy!

See you soon folks!

Day 5, Arezzo

The Passo della Consuma, reaching (after many curves!) a height of 1050 metres above sea level, was our first picture stop for today. After another break in Poppi, listed among the 100 most beautiful little towns of Italy, we finally reached Arezzo, a very old town founded by the Etruscans and that nowadays is the capital of Italian gold  and jewelry industry.

Day 4, Siena

To reach Siena, we had to cross again the Chianti area... and that was not too bad! We stopped in Castellina in Chianti where we could take a look at its nice little historical centre and then we could proceed to Siena and admire its wonderful square "Piazza del Campo" and its Cathedral, one of the most beautiful churces in Italy!

Day 3, Cooking Class

Being in Tuscany, it is always a good idea to take a Cooking Class... especially when it is in a old villa from the 15th century!

Day 2, Mugello and Muraglione

Today we rode through the Appennini mountain range and our first stop was in Scarperia to see the worldwide famous Mugello Circuit. Guess what? They let us in, so despite of some fog we could see some Superbikes giving gaaaaaas!   After a coffee break we started enjoying the twisties (and switchbacks) of the Appennini up the "Passo del Giogo" and the "Passo del Muraglione" before reaching Florence again.

Day 1, San Gimignano

One of the most famous and iconic landscapes of Tuscany is San Gimignano, the "Manhattan of the Middle Ages"... so that's what we are going to see on our first riding day!!!

I must agree with the comments above, a great tour.
Everything about the tour was excellent. The group, the routes, the locations visited, the scooter choice, the scenery, the distances traveld and the roads were a motorcyclists dream. Our guide, Domenico was great, he had excellent "local" knowledge of the areas and the roads. He is a very good rider and I had an excellent time shadowing him on the twisty hilly roads.
The items that could be improved on was the location of the hotel in Florence, that should have been closer to the the central area of Florence.
Edelweiss could either sell or rent the riding gear, especially the helmet. It is very inconvenient to carry a helmet on international flights. Other motor cycling tour companies supply essential riding gear. My solution was to buy an inexpensive helmet and trash it at the end of the tour.
