Day 13 - our last riding day from Kaprun to Seefeld
The owner of our hotel gave us a great "Race" start in the morning with lightning the Olympic fire in front of the hotel. Our way today brought us to Gerlos high alpine road and Grimsel waterfalls. Big vanilla ice cream with strawberries at our first coffee stop made us ready for Zillertaler Höhenstrasse, a small and winding road. We crossed again the border to Germany in direction to Achensee, Sylvensteinspeicher and Vorderriß. From there on our route brought us back to Seefeld where Claudia waited with a boot beer for us in front of the hotel. What a great ride and sunny 14 days riding through the alps!!!
Day 12
Klobenstein to Kaprun
We left Klobenstein at 9 and went down to Bozen and then into the Dolomites. Grödner Valley and Grödner Joch was our destination for the morning. We had a coffee break at Grödner Joch with yummy applestrudel. A lot of traffic with trucks and bicycles were on our way. Further on we cruised over Passo Falzarego in direction to Cortina d'Ampezzo. Lake Misurina was our lunchstop for today. A nice little sport with breathtaking view to the Dolomites. Our highlight of the day was Grossglockner high Alpine road. We all got to the top over the cobble stones to Edelweissspitze. Two of the "White boys" got a little lost but after a while found their way .
Restday in Klobenstein
We took of for a short ride in the morning in direction to the Dolomites. It ´was a nice and easy ride and not too hot. Cruised over Karerpass, San Pellegrino pass and Lavaze pass. A really tasty lunch waited for us in Signat at Marlis beautifull "Buschenschank". We had yummy "Schlutzkrapfen", Speck and "Schüttelbrot" and for dessert fried apple rings.
Day 10
Livigno to Klobenstein
We left Livigno northwards along Livigno lake. Then we passed the border again into Switzerland trough a one-way tunnel which is regulated by a traffic light. Ofenpass brought us back to Italia again, where we had coffee at Glurns an old medievial town in which the whole city wall is perfectly preserved. After that - everybody has already been looking forward to it - the famous Passo Stelvio with 48 switchback was on our program. At top of Passo Stelvio we got the famous Bratwurst with bread and Sauerkraut at Bruno's snack bar. Down in the Etsch valley the temperature raised up to a 100° F. We turned into the mountains again to Mölten, Jenesien and finally ended at our restdays Hotel "Bemelmans Post" in Klobenstein.
Day 9
Lugano to Livigno
We cruised along lake Lugano and lake Como in the morning. Had a nice coffee stop at Menaggio with Cappuccino and fabulous hot chocolate. From the lakes we turned north in direction Chiavenna and than further on to "Splügenpass", where we had lunch with yummy homemade pasta and mixed salad. In the afternoon we get through Via Mala, which in Romansh literally means "bad path" to Rofla Gorge. Albulapass was our afternoon pass and a little loup through St. Moritz brought us to our last pass on this day - Berninapass. On the top we turned into the valley to Livigno. A nice little village with a lot of shopping possibilities.
Day 8 - Aosta to Lugano
Our morning ride follows along the Aosta Valley towards the western flats of the river Po. Passing by the big fort Bard, which guarded the valley in former times from their enemies. Then we went on very small and narrow roads into the mountains to our coffee stop in a small village called Donato. Our lunch spot today was in Varallo in a small restaurant. Lago Maggiore is our next highlight of the day. We cross over by a ferry boat in Verbania. Shortly before Lugano we cross the boarder into Switzerland again.
Day 7 Briancon to Aosta
In the morning we climbed up Col de Montgenevre and crossed the border to Italy. In Susa on the nice little market place we enjoyed our first original "Cappuccino". Further on to Col du Mt. Cenis, where we again crossed the border to France. We headed on to Col de l'Iseran, where Angela waited with a delicious picnic for us. Coming out from the valley Val d'Isere we collected on more pass, Col du petit St. Bernard and finally ended in Aosta.
Day 6 Restday in Brincon
A relaxed loup from Briancon - LArgentière-la-Bessée - Mont Dauphin - Guillestre - Château Queyras and back "home" over Col d'Izoard.
Grand Alps Tour
On last Sunday we all met in Seefeld for the Grand Alps Tour, which takes us through Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Lichtenstein and the wonderfull landscape around the Alpine lakes. Everybody is looking forward to driving on the challanging alpine roads and collect as many as they can.
On our first riding day we went from Seefeld to Galtür. We took it easy, because of the first riding day and to get used to the new motorcycles. Our first stop was at the office and the garage in Mieming, where we said a big "HELLO" to the staff.
Then our route brought us over the Fernpass into the valley Namlos, "valley without name" to our lunchspot in Warth at "Jägeralpe".
Finally we arrived in Galtür at Hotel Post, where Franz gave us a warm welcome and showed us how easy it is to park a motorcycle by turning it 360° on the side stand.
Day 2
On this morning the weather turned out very well and we climbed up Bieler Höhe on the Silvretta high alpine road. We followed the valley towards Bludenz and stopped for a coffee in Feldkirch.
After our coffee stop, we crossed the border into Lichtenstein and pretty soon into Switzerland. We stopped at the castle of Vaduz for a quick fotostop and continued to Chur and our beautiful lunch stop in Versam. A small and curvy road with wonderfull natural tunnels routed us up here.
We finalised our day in Disents/Muster, where we had a rest day.
Day 3 Restday in Disentis/Munstér
On our restday we started to collect passes. In the morning over Oberalppass to Andermatt, Furkapass, Grimselpass, Sustenpass to Altdorf, where we heard the story about Wilhelm Tell, the Swiss legend who shot the apple from his son's head. Further on to Brunnen at the Vierwaldstätter See. From there we took the ferry over the lake, passed Ächerlipass and finally got our picnic at the Hospiz at top of Grimsel.
Day 4
Disentis/Munstèr to Chamonix Mont Blanc
Another day with sunny weather and a lot of alpine passes was on the programm. From Disentis again over Oberalppass we headed on to Gotthardpass and Nufenenpass. One of Switzerland most visited sightseeing spot is the Matterhorn in Zermatt. We were lucky to have no clouds in front of it to get some great pictures.
Day 5
Chamonix to Briancon
Mont Blanc directly behind our hotel is amazing with it's big glacier tongue
Our way today routed us to Megève and Albertville, where 1992 the Olympic Winter games took place. From there on Col de la Madeleine, Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galibier and Col du Lautaret brought us to Briancon.
