Section 2 of the Discover our Earth expedition, operated by Edelweiss Bike Travel in cooperation with GlobeBusters, is already finished. This section lead from Buenos Aires to Bogota in Colombia. Now section 3 starts from Panama all the way to LA in California. The first thing that happened at the end of section 2 is that Werner Wachter, founder and owner of Edelweiss Bike Travel, turned Latino. Many people did not believe it but he did it anyway.
The next thing then was to visit Bogota, the capital of Colombia, where we spent five days servicing the bikes and also going to see things like the gold museum, which is really something to remember, namely the gold artists that the Incas were about 600-700 years ago.
Shipping the bikes from Bogota by air. It took the team about a whole day at the airport to get the paperwork done and then we had to wait for the bikes in Panama after we have flown across the Panama Canal. It took another day to get the bikes out from customs. This is sometimes frustrating but also interesting to see how the bureaucracy in Colombia and in Panama works.
One very nice experience we had is visiting the SOS Children's Village in Panama. Almost the whole village guys rode with us on bikes in the village and some of them rode 3, 4, 5 times and it was a big big event for the kids. We were pleased to spent around 10,000 US$ for the renovation of their kitchen and also of some of their houses of the families.
The temperatures changed dramatically up to about 90 °F. So some of our tour members have chosen to ride in shorts but with BMW motorcycle boots, such as Ernst Haring from Austria/Italy.
And then some of us did take the opportunity to swim in one day in the Caribbean and in the Pacific Ocean - this is something which can be done if you ride on a motorcycle it's about 70-80 kilometres wide at this point and it is quite an experience to be able to say I swam both - in the Pacific and in the Atlantic.
Finally we have now also reached Costa Rica. There is a lot of holiday makers here from the US and from the rest of the world. We are also making a holiday here in Costa Rica although we are staying only two days but it was fantastic do swim in the Pacific again and to ride the beautiful roads through the flowers of Costa Rica.
