CROATIA to GREECE - CCG1902

Montag, 14. Oktober 2019 | Johannes Geiger / Björn Greibig | Europa

A motorcycle tour that combines 3,000 years of history with lots of spectacular riding fun!

Greece has always been a dream destination. Sunbathers, history buffs and “outdoor actives” – they all find their respective paradises along the endless golden beaches and the rugged mountains of this amazing country, which is dotted with ancient sites like no other place on earth.

Admittedly, in just a few days we can only scratch the surface, however, on this tour we scratch it thoroughly: Athens, Delphi, Olympia, Mycenae, Corinth and the world-famous monasteries of Meteora are on our bucket list and the amazing roads which connect all these dots won’t be forgotten either.

But our tour comprises more than just Greece. Albania, Macedonia and Montenegro are still white spots on most people’s maps, their history, landscapes, cultures and cuisines are yet to be discovered. Come and discover them with us!

DAY 1: Arrival in Dubrovnik

Welcome to Dubrovnik
Final setup for the bikes
Ready to go ...

DAY 2: Dubrovnik - Kolašin

Let's go!
Our first boarder crossing from Croatia to Montenegro.
On the ferry that brings us to the bay of Kotor.
Time for the first group picture.
For me the bay of Kotor looks a little bit like Norway.
Catherine & Leigh with the bay of Kotor in the background.
Lunch stop with a view.
Just breathtaking!
The Church of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ in Podgorica.
Graham enjoys the view in the Moraca river canyon.
Our hotel in Kolasin (MNE) for the next 2 nights

DAY 3: Restday Kolašin

Tara canyon bridge.
On the road that brings us to the Durmitor NP.
The first of many photo stops this day, because the Durmitor NP is just beautiful.
All home made!!!
Unfortunately, most summits have stayed in the clouds today.
There are also many sheeps in the Durmitor NP. :-P
Prevoj Sedlo pass
No words needed...

DAY 4: Kolašin - Shkodra

Adventures Montenegro
I think we should loop the chain after todays ride ...
Turkish coffee on top of our first pass
And that’s why you should never drink it to the end
Border to Albania
Spectacular roads in Albania! Perfect road surface, no traffic and of course no police
An italian-albanian dinner tonight.
At night in the streets of Shkoder.
It's time for some Aperol Spritz!

DAY 5: Shkodra - Ohrid

Today we explored the real Albania. We rode deep into the middle of the country and met a lot of kids that had been really happy to see us riding through their home We also saw the difference between the touristic Albania and the real (poor) Albania. But anyway we have to say: Albania you are the master of roads!

The guys are ready to go!
Border crossing Albania - Macedonia

DAY 6: Ohrid - Saranda

The bikes are lined up for another great riding day.
From north Macedonia back to Albania.
Lookout lake Ohrid.
Todays lunch was Byrek.
Llogara pass
Rinding along the albanian Riviera is like riding in paradise.
Unreal...

DAY 7: Saranda - Meteora

We stopped at Butrint in the morning.
They call it ferry. :-P
Lunch right at the ocean.
Are you in?!
The right temperature for iced coffee.
Our view from the hotel for the next two days.
Graham enjoys some Metaxa*****.

DAY 8: Restday Meteora

A short ride with the guys to the monasteries of Meteora just before it started to rain.
Happy faces!
What a stunning view!!!
Tyler & Robert on the top of Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapavsa.

The rest of the group did a guided monastery tour with our guide Johannes and the local guide Katerina. She could really tell us a lot of interesting stories about the culture and the region. We really enjoyed it! Thanks Katerina

Here some impressions:

DAY 9: Meteora - Delphi

We enjoy the view down to the Gulf of Corinth with a glass of Aperol Spritz.

DAY 10: Delphi - Olympia

Bevore we started riding, we visited Delphi

Hardcore sightseeing: congratulations to the people that made it to the top
Paul the Hulk also made it Already in perfect shape for the next olympic games!
Group picture at our lovely picnic spot
The only wind protected place during the picnic today was unfortunately behind our van.
Tired Paul ...
Our place fir dinner tonight in Olympia

DAY 11: Olympia - Kalamata

Time to relax a little bit...

DAY 12: Kalamata - Nafplio

Almost on the top of Sparta-Kalamata pass.
The guys talking about...
...this beauty!
A wonderful little, quiet place for a coffee in the mountains between Kalamata and Sparta.
Just good riding and scenery.
Unfortunately, you can't see on the photo how breathtaking the view at this point is.
A small gift for a few of our most faithful tour members.

DAY 13: Nafplio - Athen

The theater of Epidauros a masterpiece of ancient architecture.
That's already the farewell dinner, the time has passed...

What an outstanding trip! Bjorn & Johannes are such excellent guides. The switchbacks in the mountains are never ending and the coastline is beautiful. We have such a fun group on this tour. To see the history in these countries and just the fact that we are here to experience this is amazing. Looking forward to the final week.
