“Sicily to Rome” 2011 (RTS1102) – DAY5

Monday, May 16, 2011 | Manuel Marabese | Europe

Good morning!

Anyone fancies a jump in the sea or in the pool? It has to be in the morning, though... Today we are leaving Sicily, crossing the "Stretto di Messina" via ferry and we will cruise along the tyrrenean coast of Calabria towards the scenic little village Tropea...

We want to enjoy some more great twisty roads on the western side of Monte Etna... a strange red signpost tells us "road closed" but whatever, we keep riding and then we will find a detour.

A quick espresso or a macchiato side to side with many Italian bikers on their sunday "racing track" through villages where the main road and the main square are not very different in size...

One of the emotional highlight is about to come: the boat trip! Well, it is not a proper trip - just a short ferry crossing - but it still gives a nice feeling of movement from the island to the continent.

After a short ride we take a break for lunch in Scilla... here on the beach the summer season seems already started!

And we are blessed by an overhelming pink and violet sunset admired from the pool garden...
