Alps & Lakes Sept 2014 (CAL 1403)

Tuesday, September 16, 2014 | Paul Kustermann | Europe

Welcome to Alps and Lakes, the tour that brushes right up against the great beauty and diversity that halmarks central Europe: stunning scenery, thousands of years of cultural diversity, highly modern society and technology co-existing with cherished traditional customs, great food, great roads, great motorcycling and great company. Follow us as we discover Salzburg, folow the ancient salt-trade-route along the river Traun and cross the highest alpine pass of Austria! The many waterways that make this region so fertile and quaint are also footprints of a civilization dating back to the pleistocene age.

On the way from Gerlos Pass we encountered a little road-blockage! They call it an "Alm-Abtrieb" and it is the fall tradition of bringing the cattle from the high mountain pastures down into the valley to their winter dwellings. Here is a little impression on Video: Video-Almabtrieb (mary)

I can't say enough nice things about our recent Alps and Lakes tour. The tour guides made sure that the trip was everything that you wanted it to be. Each day you were given options of routes and things to do. The trip could be as little or as much as you wanted to do. It was up to you! As for two of us, we decided to go to Italy on the rest day and we did 391 km on back roads. The trip far exceeded my expectations. I also would like to say Edelweiss Bike Travel is a very customer driven company and does a very good job of accommodating special requests of their clients. After the death of my husband, I wanted to participate on a tour but I have never driven a motorcycle. The wonderful folks in the office worked with me and arranged for an extra tour guide to be sent to be my driver. My driver Paul really set the standard bar very high for next time. Next year I am looking at doing Pyrenees Extreme resting a few days and then going out on Tour of Pyrenees. Looking forward to more great times! Mary

Hi all, just finished this Sept Alps tour. Wow! My first tour and had no real idea of what to expect. From start to finish the tour was fantastic. Franaz,Paul and Toby looked after everything. It seemed that they couldn't do enough for us. The allotted bikes were all relatively new ( mine 200ks only). The hotels chosen were very good except the one in Salzburg was only ok but I had it explained to me that if your only staying one night in such a beautiful city you need to be close to old area but also have bike accommodation and this was the closest with this. They can't have been thinking about us in the fourteen hundreds. Areas we road in amazingly picturesque on great quality roads. We had a 'rest' day and road 400 ks it was that special! Flicking pages of mag for next tour. David
