Rome - Sicily

Sunday, May 3, 2015 | Ursula Peter | Europe

Good bye - hope you enjoyed it, hope we will see you again. Have a safe trip back home. Ride one

Alan und Ursula

9. Riding Day - Agrigento - Catania

Last coffe stop in Sommatino. These guy got no stress! Playing cards, sitting round, talking - I mean it is a normal Monday!

We were the highlight of the day!!

Villa Romana - Bill Gates of the 4th century own the villa with 3.000 qm of mosaics. All preserved because covered under mud for centuries.

The famous Bikini girls

Boot beer in Villa Paradiso del Etna - everyone in one piece, lots of experiences and good rides

Last supper!

8. Riding Day - Cefalu - Agrigento

The group is arriving at the picnic place in Godrano

The Brasilians - Marcelo and Godfather (Jayme)

Yummee - and the leftovers were traded in with local families against lasagne and grilled sausages.

No we are not in Greece - Agrigento is the place were these amazing Greek temples are.

7. Riding Day - Taormina - Cefalu

We were heading towards the Etna again like yesterday. But then we turned right and had the Etna from the other side

Lunch stop in Sperlinga. Normaly we can visit the Norman castle, carved into the rock. But.... ab huge piece of rock cracked out of the wall - watch the white hole. The castle is close at the moment - doesn`t matter, so we had a look along the edge where all the "houses" or caves are.

Gorgeous Gangi with  Mount Etna in the background. You can buy a house in the city center for 1 Euro - go for it!! OK, you have to renovate it within 3 years for at least 30.000  Euros. But still it would be a  good winter escape.

6. Riding Day - Mount Etna

View from the Baia Taormina Hotel

Yes, its gonna be a perfect day for mount Etna, 3.350 m high, the only active vulcano in Europe

Mare Neve - the lava fields, Mount Etna in the background

Hi Tourguides out there - who knows this guy ????- maybe all of  you. He is on his 12th Edelweiss tour

Dilvanio is happy. The Brasilians and the Kasachis went up to the very top of Mount Etna

Meiram

5. Riding Day - Tropea - Taormina

Lunch for the Van Driver + passenger Jayme

Misto di Antipasti a base di pesce ... we asked how many plates! we were told 14 only

so we started very excited ...

...but we ended up with 17 ... way to much!!!

so he was the padrino (the Godfather) for 1 day! with a gun and a Coppola and a full belly at the end)

a beautiful ride or even drive up with the van to have an awesome lunch! Forza D'Agro' is one of the spots to eat

Coffe Stop in Rosarno, Calabria

Sicily - we are coming - our destination today is Taormina. On a rock plateau 20 m above sea level, Taormina looks out from its balcony over the sea to mount Etna. But first we are going along the Calabrian coast line.

A picture stop in the morning before leaving - Tropea

At the beach in Scilla - Siciliy can be seen already

Delicous lunch in Grotto Azurra in Scilla

We heading to Villa San Giovanni to enter the ferry

In the beautiful garden of the Forum Hotel in Pompej - what a nice group

the region is wellknown for its lemons. The big ones are used to produce Limoncello

Kampanien is the region wellknown for the best Mozzarella on this planet. One of the most famous "caseificio di mozzzarella di bufala" is the one of the Barlotti brothers just on the old walls of Paestum. 2.500 kg Mozzarella is the daily production. You can buy all varietes of this delicious cheese, also icecream made of buffalo milk, even soap and body lotion.

Look at the horns - these are the baby ones.

We had a buffalo picnic there....

A good tour made by heart from a napoletano D.O.C.

The Rome to Sicily Tour is about to start. We have quite an international group - 10 people, 8 riders and 8 nationalities. Amazing!!!

This Blog starts with a riddle!!! What flag is it???

I can tell you, the guy went out on his bike into Rome`s traffic by his own, found his Embassy and got some flags...

And he made it back to the hotel - quiet a perfomance....

So if you guys out there tell us what flag it is, we will continue with the blog

Maybe you won`t find out, than we tourguides have a little bit more time off!! I am looking forward to your suggestions.
