Riding day 6, Varadero - Havana

To complete our Cuban experience, we were missing the tropical rain, but today we finally we got some! I'm joking, of course So, today we had to ride back to Havana and give back our bikes, the tour is over but the group is staying another day to explore the fascinating capital city of this country. Goodbye everybody, it was a great pleasure meeting you. See you somewhere else in the world... and of course always on two wheels!

At the Bacunayagua bridge, the tallest and longest in Cuba
beautiful views from the Mirador
did you know that also Che Guevara was a motorcyclist?
Lunch in Jibacoa
with our rain gear on, we reached Cojimar, famous for inspiring Hemingway to write his famous book "The Old Man and the Sea"
In the "Terraza de Cojimar" bar
Havana seen from the "Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro"
Last group picture at the "Plaza de la Revolucion"

Riding day 5, Remedios - Varadero

Leaving Remedios, we rode along the Circuito Norte closer to the coast. This road, passing through remote rural areas, is not in very good conditions, but the landscapes we rode through were really worth it and we also could have a good idea of what life in the fields is still nowadays. And the contrast with Varadero, just a few miles away from these fields, is huge!

Remedios in the morning

It really feels like travelling back in time
beautiful sky
In Varadero, before reaching our hotel, we stopped for a few pictures at Al Capone's house
Last but not least, happy birthday Werner!

Riding day 4, Cayo Santa Maria - Remedios

Today nobody wanted to enjoy the beach (lucky people living in Florida!), so we added an extra loop to our ride in order not to arrive too early to Remedios, and we also had to struggle a bit to find a place for lunch, but in the end it was another beautiful day that ended with a great dinner at our "casa particular" in the historic centre of Remedios. Pure Cuba!

in the middle of the "pedraplen", the road connecting Cuba with the little "Cayo" islands
At the museum of sugar industry, where there is also a big collection of old trains
trying some fresh sugar cane juice
is it a Harley?
time for an authentic cigar!
dinner

Riding day 3, Trinidad - Cayo Santa Maria

Today we crossed Cuba from the southern coast to the northern one. Our first stop was in the Valle de los Ingenios, a Unesco World Heritage Site, that was once one of the most important centres for the production of sugar, and therefore for the economy of the whole island. Nice backcountry roads led us then to Santa Clara, where we paid homage to Che Guevara before finally heading to Cayo Santa Maria.

At the Iznaga tower, once the tallest building of Cuba. This tower was used to control the work in the fields... and of course to spot fires from a distance!
The Valle de los Ingenios is so beautiful
Approaching Santa Clara
At the Che Guevara mausoleum
Hasta la Victoria!
Lunch in Santa Clara
the Bulldozer that Che Guevara used to derail a train during the last battle of the Cuban Revolution in 1959.

Riding day 2, Cienfuegos - Trinidad

This day offered us mountains, curvy roads and tropical forests. We first stopped in the beautiful historic centre of Cienfuegos and then reached the waterfalls in the jungle around El Nicho. A quite challenging ride through the mountains of the Sierra del Escambray and we finally reached our destination. And tonight dinner out in Trinidad!

Let's go

Riding Day 1, Havana - Cienfuegos

Welcome to Cuba, where another beautiful tour through the island has just begun. A gropu of friends from Florida has decide to explore this island that is very close to them... but also very far from another point of view! Today we rode from Havana, the Capital, to Cienfuegos on the southern coast. Enjoy the pictures!

At the Cienaga de Zapata national park, something that could be compared to the Everglades in Florida
