Dulcis in fundo, we have left the Trollstigen pass for our last day. In the morning on our way to Åndalsnes the weather has been quite grey and a bit wet on the way up the 11 hairpins. We have not been so lucky to have the view over the switchbacks but right after the passes.... The sky opened magically! Blue sky and warm sun in the strawberry valley called Valldal! Just fantastic, perfect timing for our last afternoon coffee stop, this time accompanied by a very yummy strawberry cake!
Thank you everyone for being so kind on this tour, working for you has been truly a pleasure and a honor for us.
Yours,
Manuel and Pierre.
Another couple of highlights on our route today: we start along the coast towards Vestnes and then after a ferry ride we reach Molde, known as the town of roses and the jazz festival. Later on we visit Fort Ergan in Bud, one of the many nazi bunker built during WWII.
Before (and also after) lunch we cross the bridges of the famous Atlantic Road, enjoying then a wonderful meal with fish soup and bacalao at a Biartmans Favorit, a local restaurant. This year they even won the trophy for the best bacalao of the region!
First time that the sun was not really coming through and the day started a bit foggy, however later the day it got a bit better and today we turned around various fjords incl the Westkapp.. what an experience.
The day looks sunny and warm, no big cruise traffic in the fjord... So we are heading to Geriganger today, the King of the fjords!
We often start this tour with an easy yet scenic route. After a short ferry rde we leave behind the "urban" area around the pretty Ålesund and we cruise among idyllic little fishing villages with well kept gardens.
Highlight of the day is the boat tour to the bird colony on the boat of captain Bjorn. He tells us many interesting aspects of the local history, among thousands of birds and some deep blue water.
What an exciting atmosphere in town! The sun is just about to shine and Pierre and Manuel are getting the bikes ready for this touring center based in Ålesund! Let's have a look...
The group of riders is pretty mxed, coming from South Afirca, Canada, United States, Germany, Sweden and even Santo Domingo!
