"Road of 1000 curves", near Pai

Day 1: Welcome to Chiang Mai
One of maaaany tempels here (but one of the most brautiful ones)
Dinner time

Day 2: Chiang Mai to Chiang Kham
Daily briefing
Ready to roll
Following secondary and third category roads, we stopped at the Tan Tong waterfall
Quick and typical lunch, up at a mountain pass
Chicken and pork BBQ with sticky rice and spicy sauces.
Following curvy roads in a jungle-ish environment, wie reached a temple in the afternoon
The monks invited us for some fresh, cold water
Daisy donated something and the monk robot blessed her

Day 3: Chiang Kham to Nan

Start into another wonderful day
Coffee break at a place called "Route 66"
The road today is breathtaking with endless curves - which brought us here for lunch
"Boklua river view"
What a beautiful sunset in Nan, where we will stay 2 nights.

Day 4: Rest day in Nan
Nobody really wanted to rest...!
So, we jumped in our motorcycles (nooo, not those scooters! ) and headed off with 2 groups: for 1 longer and 1 shorter tour.

The shortcut took us a bit to unpaved parts
Back on asphalt, we again enjoyed beautiful curves and views.
In a little detour, we saw this, what they call here a "canyon".

Arriving back in 38 Celsius, not just Glen cooled down a bit in the pool.
Good mood at dinner in town, after another great day

Day 5: Nan to Chiang Khong
Close to Nan, there is a winderful viewpoint (with some little stalls for souvenirs and food, of course)
People like to shoot pictures of us (and our bikes)
...and vice versa!

Day 6: Chiang Khong to Doi Ang Khang
Good morning.
View from the hotel over Mekong Rover, Laos on the other side.

Riding along the Mekong, we reached the "Golden Triangle", where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet

Following old smuggler paths along the Norder to Myanmar
Up here, instead of Opium, people plant now coffee (and tea)

At another stop, we got invited, to have a look into a local family's home
After many more curves on beautiful roads, einding along the border, we stopped at a quite remote village
Carlos, surrounded by children, when he came to give them some sweets
He also got something, but preferred to stay seated in "bis" rice
The final kilometers were a bit steep and in challenging condition.

Day 7: Doi Ang Khang to Pai
When we started in the mountains, this morning, we had a nice view on some clouds, hanging deep in the valleys
Coffee break
Leaving the main road, a very scenic and (almost) perfectly paved small road brought us through a region with lakes, corn fields, mountain views and more...
At an elephant training center, we got an exclusive treatment - not as all the other tourist masses at the main spots...!
The "crowd" goes for a ride, or...
...does some rafting.
A single lane road brought us through the jungle and our lunch stop.
The Mok Fa waterfall was asking for our visit!
Continuing our way to Pai, our local guide Ping Pong showed us his home

He explained, how they catch mice and rats with this trap (...to eat them!...)
As the village was just reachable via some side road, we also had some fun on dirt
Continuing to Pai, we rode the "road of the thousand curves".
Curves: the theme of the day (actually, of the entire tour!)

Day 8: Pai to Mae Sariang

At a rice viewpoint: challenging construction (a swing)
"Gas station"
Usual cabling (and this is the harmless version)
Today's road was in perfectly riding conditions and very scenic.
At our coffee stop, we had the chance for shopping, as well as...
...enjoying this amazing view.
At midday, we took these typical longboats for a 200 minute rice
Visit at a village of the longneck women.
Herr, Mary tried a tourist version
The original rings can weight up to 5 kg
We also had lunch there (just the chef didn't know that... ...).
No photo of the afternoon - we simply had a very gold rice...
...and this view from our hotel restaurant!

Day 9: Mae Sariang to Chiang Mai
These days, there will be a big festival, wäre all sind will be forgiven. One item, many people habe, is this money tree. It will be given to the monks.
Outlook to Thailands highest peak (2565 m)
Local bike with "panniers"
Thai people love their king. All over, one can find his photograph.
Lunch at the Wachiratan waterfall
Necklaces and belts, made of melon seets.
Afternoon coffee stop
PingPong, our thai tour guide.
Back in Chiang Mai, we deserved a boot beer.
At the farewell dinner, everyone got a little present

It was an awesome tour, with many curves and lasting impressions - in northern Thailand.

Hi, Just had a fantastic trip on the Thailand Extreme.
Just like to say a special thanks to Glen for letting the group ahead of me go threw a difficult corner and then trying to slow myself and my wife down on a gravel corner.
I now have the cast and bruises to remember your help by.

Thanks James and Daisy. Will know next Wednesday if they are going to operate on my shoulder. Been in and out of hospital since I got back. Amazing that I could ride the bike back. Better be ok for 3 weeks time in Spain.

Hi Peter. We we hoping to see you on this tour. This is our favorite edelweiss tour. Michael has done a great job setting it up. Hence our second time here this year. Daisy is hoping to make this an annual event.
