So here we are in beautiful Carinthia, the southernmost state of Austria. It seems we have some luck on our side as for the past weeks it has done nothing but rain, rain, rain. Today  it's somewhat overcast, but the coming week is looking much more promising, with the forecast showing sun, some cloud and a few scattered showers. Let's see what the weather gods are bringing us.......

Aquí estamos, en la hermosa Carintia, el estado más meridional de Austria. Parece que tenemos algo de suerte, ya que en las últimas semanas no ha hecho más que llover, llover y llover. Hoy está algo nublado, pero la semana que viene se presenta mucho más prometedora, con previsiones de sol, algunas nubes y algunos chubascos dispersos. A ver qué nos deparan los dioses del tiempo.......

Overnight it has rained and this morning we have low cloud cover, so we decide to keep in the valleys and hope that the weather improves during the day. First thing we make a quick detour to Villach to pick up some wet weather gear and then we are straight into the country roads heading east. Even with the low cloud cover it is still beautiful here with the clouds adding some real perspective to the environment. We make a quick stop to take in the Wildensteiner waterfall and by the time we come down the Cafe has opened so we take some refreshments. Already it is starting to clear up and the sun is trying to poke its way through the clouds. We pass briefly through Slovenia and then we are back into Austria and Styria. We take lunch at the Dreisiebener Vineyard and by now its really brightening up. We blast our way up and over the Soboth pass, follow the Drau river for a while then race back to Velden as there are ominous clouds looming in the distance. It's been a great first day and we are all looking forward to the rest of the week.

Durante la noche ha llovido y esta mañana tenemos poca nubosidad, así que decidimos mantenernos en los valles y esperar que el tiempo mejore durante el día. Lo primero que hacemos es desviarnos rápidamente a Villach para recoger algo de ropa de lluvia y luego nos metemos de lleno en las carreteras rurales en dirección este. A pesar de la escasa nubosidad, el paisaje sigue siendo precioso y las nubes añaden perspectiva al entorno. Hacemos una parada rápida en la cascada de Wildensteiner y cuando bajamos ya han abierto la cafetería, así que nos tomamos un refresco. Empieza a clarear y el sol intenta abrirse paso entre las nubes. Pasamos brevemente por Eslovenia y luego volvemos a Austria y Estiria. Almorzamos en el viñedo de Dreisiebener, donde el sol ya está brillando. Subimos a toda velocidad el puerto de Soboth, seguimos el río Drau durante un rato y regresamos a Velden mientras se ciernen nubes de mal agüero en la distancia. Ha sido un primer día estupendo y todos estamos deseando que llegue el resto de la semana.

The sun is shining and the forecast is good, so we head off in a south-easterly direction towards Slovenia. It's a great day for riding and we are soon shooting up the Loibl pass and into Slovenia. Then it's down the other side and intoo the beautiful town of Bled, where we stop for a coffee and to admire the gorgeous scenery. We are soon on the road again and we take the panorama road looking down into the Soca valley - what a great view from up here. Then it's down into Kobarid where we make a quick stop for lunch. No time for siestas today and after lunch we follow a group of Austrian bikers who keep us moving at a pretty good pace! Eventually they turn off and we head up towards Mangart, only to find the road closed! Ah well, we will be back this way later in the week so fingers crossed it is open by then. We cross over the Predil pass and make a coffee stop in Tarvisio, before taking a relaxed final ride of the day back to the Hotel. It's been an awesome day and we still have 5 more days to come

El sol brilla y las previsiones son buenas, así que salimos en dirección sureste hacia Eslovenia. Hace un día estupendo para rodar y pronto estamos subiendo el puerto de Loibl y entrando en Eslovenia. Luego bajamos por el otro lado y llegamos a la hermosa ciudad de Bled, donde paramos para tomar un café y admirar el magnífico paisaje. Pronto estamos de nuevo en la carretera y tomamos la carretera panorámica que baja hacia el valle de Soca. Luego bajamos a Kobarid, donde hacemos una parada rápida para comer. Hoy no hay tiempo para siestas y, después de comer, seguimos a un grupo de motoristas austriacos que nos mantienen en movimiento a buen ritmo. Al final se desvían y nos dirigimos hacia Mangart, ¡sólo para encontrar la carretera cerrada! Ah, bueno, volveremos por aquí a finales de semana, así que crucemos los dedos para que esté abierta para entonces. Cruzamos el puerto de Predil y hacemos una parada para tomar un café en Tarvisio, antes de dar un relajado paseo final del día de vuelta al hotel. Ha sido un día increíble y aún nos quedan 5 días más

We are lucky to have "The God of the Mountains" in our group (Andres) and so the sun is still shining Today we stay in Austria and head north to the Nock mountains and the famous "Nockalmstrasse". First we head up through the valleys to Gmund and take a look around the Porsche museum there. Then a quick coffee stop in the main square and we head off to the Nockalmstrasse. There's little traffic around today and it's dry and sunny - another perfect day for biking. There is still snow as we head up Nockalm and it's fresh, but it's an awesome ride. We take lunch at the Glockenhutte before heading down and then it's straight back up to the top of the Turracherhohe. It's empty up here but theres a lot of work going on post ski season. Then down the other side and then back up to the Flattnitzerhohe and finally we begin our descnt back towards Velden. It threatens to rain at the end of the day but a few drops is all we get. A last coffee stop by Worthersee then back to the Hotel. Another great day's ride - hard riding but there's smiles all round!

Tenemos la suerte de contar con "El Dios de las Montañas" en nuestro grupo (Andrés) y por eso el sol sigue brillando Hoy nos quedamos en Austria y nos dirigimos al norte, a las montañas de Nock y a la famosa "Nockalmstrasse". Primero subimos por los valles hasta Gmund y echamos un vistazo al museo Porsche. Después de una rápida parada para tomar un café en la plaza principal, nos dirigimos a la Nockalmstrasse. Hoy hay poco tráfico y está seco y soleado, otro día perfecto para ir en bici. Todavía hay nieve cuando nos dirigimos a Nockalm y está fresca, pero es un paseo impresionante. Almorzamos en el Glockenhutte antes de bajar y luego volvemos a la cima del Turracherhohe. Está vacío, pero hay mucho trabajo después de la temporada de esquí. Luego bajamos por el otro lado y volvemos a subir al Flattnitzerhohe y finalmente comenzamos el descenso de vuelta hacia Velden. Amenaza con llover al final del día, pero sólo caen unas gotas. Un último café en Worthersee y de vuelta al hotel. Otro gran día de ruta, dura pero con sonrisas por doquier.

Today we are riding to Bella Italia! It's another glorious day and we head out on the autobahn to take us quickly across the border from where we can start in the small curvy roads. We are soon heading upwards into Sella Nevea, and the further we go, the narrower the roads become. Eventually we exit the tree line and wow! what a view - just sunshine and snow covered mountains! Unfortunately the cafe up here is still undergoing renovation so we haed back down until we find another place to stop. And the we are on the go again, riding down to beautiful San Daniele Del Fruili where we stop briefly - but it is still too early for lunch, so we continue for a while towards Sella Chianzutan. Again we are on tiny narrow roads, but it is perfect as there's really no other traffic around! We stop for a quick lunch in Villa Santina and when we emerge it's looking ominously grey in the distance. We don wet weather gear and continue, but manage to dodge the worst of the weather until we reach the Peak of Monte Zoncolan. Then it's decision making time and we opt to head back but get caught in some pretty vicious thunderstorms. We arrive safely back at the hotel, mostly dry thanks to the shopping trip at the start of the week, and head into to take in some wellnes and warm up a little before dinner.

Hoy nos dirigimos a Bella Italia. Es otro día glorioso y salimos por la autopista que nos llevará rápidamente al otro lado de la frontera, desde donde podremos iniciarnos en las pequeñas carreteras de curvas. Pronto nos dirigimos hacia Sella Nevea, y cuanto más avanzamos, más estrechas se vuelven las carreteras. Finalmente salimos de la arboleda y ¡guau! qué vista - ¡sólo sol y montañas cubiertas de nieve! Desgraciadamente, la cafetería de aquí arriba sigue en obras, así que bajamos hasta que encontramos otro lugar donde parar. Y de nuevo en marcha, bajamos hasta la hermosa San Daniele Del Fruili, donde nos detenemos brevemente, pero aún es demasiado pronto para comer, así que continuamos un rato hacia Sella Chianzutan. Una vez más, vamos por carreteras estrechas, pero es perfecto porque no hay mucho tráfico. Paramos a almorzar en Villa Santina y, cuando salimos, el cielo se ve ominosamente gris a lo lejos. Nos ponemos el equipo de lluvia y continuamos, pero conseguimos esquivar lo peor del tiempo hasta que llegamos a la cima del Monte Zoncolan. Es el momento de tomar una decisión y optamos por regresar, pero nos sorprenden unas tormentas muy fuertes. Llegamos sanos y salvos al hotel, casi secos gracias a la excursión de compras de principios de semana, y entramos a tomar algo de sol y a calentarnos un poco antes de cenar.

The weather forecast for today was somewhat grim, so instead of riding it was decided to take a shopping trip to various motorcycle stores in Villach. We managed to spend most of the day looking around, comparing prices and trying on various clothing and helmets and it ended up being a very successful day. Tomorrow the new gear will be put to the test

La previsión meteorológica para hoy era un tanto sombría, así que en lugar de montar en moto se decidió hacer una excursión de compras a varias tiendas de motos de Villach. Hemos podido pasar la mayor parte del día mirando, comparando precios y probándonos varias prendas y cascos, y al final ha sido un día muy provechoso. Mañana pondremos a prueba la nueva equipación

It was raining during the night and this morning the weather still looks ominous. Nevertheless we set out in the direction of Faaker See and then start to make our way up the Wurzen Pass. A few drops of rain start to patter down, but we don't stop and soon it has subsided again and we pass into Slovenia. The roads are still damp but as we head down the Slovenian side of the Wurzen pass it's already starting to dry out. We head across the border again into Italy and we are soon making our way up the Passo Predil again, but as we pass across once again into Slovenia the road is blocked. There is some kind of filming going on and we have to wait 10 minutes until they finish, but then we are on the move again, and by the time we descend into Bovec the sun is shining. We stop for coffee and a quick break and then we are on the way up to the Vrsic pass, but there is a lot of traffic today, especially bicycles. We stop at the top to take in the awesome views from up here then it's down to Kranskja Gora and we head into the Soca Valley and have a beautiful run into Bled, where we stop for lunch. It's not as busy as the other day and we watch the boat races and take in the ambience while having a relaxed lunch break. We start off again taking the high road towards the Loibl pass and then we are back into Austria and make it back to the Hotel with enough time to sit outside by the pool for a while. It's been another awesome day especially after looking a little dodgy first thing in the morning.

Ha llovido durante la noche y esta mañana el tiempo sigue amenazante. No obstante, salimos en dirección al Faaker See y empezamos a subir el puerto de Wurzen. Empiezan a caer algunas gotas de lluvia, pero no nos detenemos y pronto ha amainado de nuevo y pasamos a Eslovenia. Las carreteras aún están húmedas, pero a medida que bajamos por el lado esloveno del puerto de Wurzen ya empieza a secarse. Volvemos a cruzar la frontera con Italia y pronto subimos de nuevo el Passo Predil, pero al pasar de nuevo a Eslovenia la carretera está bloqueada. Hay una especie de rodaje y tenemos que esperar 10 minutos hasta que terminan, pero luego nos ponemos en marcha de nuevo y cuando bajamos a Bovec ya brilla el sol. Hacemos una parada para tomar un café y descansar un poco y nos ponemos en camino hacia el puerto de Vrsic, pero hoy hay mucho tráfico, sobre todo de bicicletas. Nos detenemos en la cima para disfrutar de las impresionantes vistas desde aquí arriba y luego bajamos a Kranskja Gora y nos dirigimos al valle de Soca y hacemos una bonita carrera hasta Bled, donde paramos a comer. No hay tanta gente como el otro día, así que vemos las regatas y disfrutamos del ambiente mientras almorzamos relajadamente. Volvemos a tomar la carretera hacia el puerto de Loibl, entramos de nuevo en Austria y regresamos al hotel con tiempo suficiente para sentarnos un rato junto a la piscina. Ha sido otro día estupendo, sobre todo después de haber estado un poco aturdidos a primera hora de la mañana.

So here we are - it's the last day of the tour already. We decide to skip too much sightseeing and concentrate on riding today. We head off towards Ferlach but make our first stop at the Pyramidenkogel - it's the highest wooden observation tower in the world and the views from the top are awesome. Then we are on the move again first up the Trogen Gorge follwoed by a ride to the top of the Seeberg Saddle. There's little traffic and we can have some fun We head back down again and then up to the top of the Magdalensburg, where we stop for a drink - no time for lunch today! The views from up here are also awesome and we spend some time up here soaking it in. Then we head off to Hochosterwitz followed by a quick visit to Gurk Cathedral. Time is moving on and it's already been a long day so we make the most of the last curvy roads as we head back to Velden and reach the Hotel just after 6pm. It's been a great tour and realistically we have been super lucky with the weather which has enabled us to make the most of our time here. It was great riding with you guys and hope to see you again!

Aquí estamos: ya es el último día del viaje. Decidimos no hacer demasiado turismo y concentrarnos hoy en montar a caballo. Nos dirigimos a Ferlach, pero hacemos una primera parada en la Pyramidenkogel, la torre de observación de madera más alta del mundo, con unas vistas impresionantes. Luego nos ponemos en marcha de nuevo, primero por el desfiladero de Trogen y luego hasta la cima de Seeberg. Hay poco tráfico y podemos divertirnos Volvemos a bajar y luego subimos hasta la cima del Magdalensburg, donde paramos a tomar algo, ¡hoy no hay tiempo para comer! Las vistas desde aquí arriba también son impresionantes y pasamos un rato empapándonos de ellas. Después nos dirigimos a Hochosterwitz y visitamos la catedral de Gurk. El tiempo avanza y ya ha sido un día muy largo, así que aprovechamos al máximo las últimas curvas para regresar a Velden y llegar al hotel pasadas las seis de la tarde. Ha sido un gran viaje y, siendo realistas, hemos tenido mucha suerte con el tiempo, lo que nos ha permitido aprovechar al máximo nuestro tiempo aquí. Ha sido estupendo rodar con vosotros y esperamos volver a veros.
