Sunday, July 23, 2023 | Daniel Neuner / Dominik Nattkamp | Europe

Today we start the Ultimate Alps Tour. From Seefeld in Austria we take a big loop over Switzerland and Italy back to Austria. In 8 riding days we will see the Alps at its best

Riding Day 1 Seefeld to Pontresina

Just before the start
After 1.600km is before 2.200km. This guy come on his own bike from the British Islands
Here we go
The group at a perfect viewpoint
We are lucky. The Reschenpass was closed one day before. But for us they open one line
Only a little traffic jam
The challenge starts……the Stelvio
At Bruno’s Würstchenstand everybody relax after the challenge
The first riding day and we did it…..the Stelvio

Riding Day 2 Pontresina to Brunnen

Our second riding day led us from Pontresina to the town Brunnen, which lies at the shore of the beautiful Vierwaldstätter See and we were lucky enough to have a hotel directly at the lake. To get to our goal of Brunnen we got to ride 5 different mountain passed today.

Some nice views on our first mountain pass of today, the Maloja Pass.

For lunch we stopped at a nice little pizzaria in the middle of nowhere that even had its own waterfall.

That looks like fun, and it was.

The view from our hotel over the lake, cant get much better than this.

Our trusted sweeper of the day, thanks for doing a great job today.

Riding Day 3 Brunnen to Zermatt

Another great day will start today

The group is ready for the ride
We reach the ferry in time
A good spot for a group picture
Coffee stop at the bottom of the Susten Pass
So many to see in this great area
The bikes are resting…..
…..and the group have a lunchtime at a beautiful place
After the lunch we enter the next pass…..the Furka Pass
This pass is one of the most exciting passes in Switzerland
The group at the top of Furka Pass
Now we are in Zermatt and the Matterhorn is still there
We end with a perfect dinner…..
….. Swiss Raclette……
…..and cheese fondue

Riding Day 4 Zermatt to Lugano

Today we already have to leave Zermatt again. But since we are already and we are having a shorter riding day to Lugano anyway, some of us decided to go up to the Gornergrat by train and enjoy the view over the surounding mountains and of course look at the famous Matterhorn from up close. The rest of our group also had a good time and used our little excursion to do some shopping and sightseeing in Zermatt.

The famous stone eagle on the Simplon Pass standing guard over the road.

We also did some sightseeing today and stopped by the impressive Cathedral Santuario Della Madonna Del Sangue.

Riding Day 5 Lugano to Val di Sole

Today we test the word  from the early bird.....and start one our erlier

At the border from Switzerland to Italy

We reach the ferry in time

Lake Como

Coffee stop in the middle of nowhere
Now everyone can talk about narrow roads
At the Passo Vivione
As I said…….narrow

Riding Day 6 Val di Sole to Bolzano

Our goal of today is Bozen, the capitol of this part of Italy and a beautiful city with a huge historic city center.

Some great coffee, cake and icecream makes for a good start of the day.

You definitly have to stop at the beautiful Molveno lake, what a great view.

Today we had a little surprise alont the road, the traditional Edelweiss picknick.

Michael - the Edelweiss apron definitly suits him.

Our last stop today before we head to our hotel was ontop of the Monte Penegal, overlooking the valley.

Rest Day Ride - The Strudel Tour in the Dolomites

Today we enter the Dolomites with the best weather conditions.

Just before the start
A lucky guy waiting for the Strudel
The Karersee
First coffee stop with the first Strudel
Now we know where the “Wichtel” comes from
Lunchtime? Nobody need lunch……but the second Strudel
The proud riders in front of the Sella mountain

While part of our group went for a long ride, the rest took it slow today and went for a shorter ride, so we could still spend some time in Bozen or at the hotel pool in the afternoon.

Quite busy  today on the Sella Joch, but no suprise with this view up here.

Riding Day 8 Bolzano to Mieming

Our last riding day leads us back from South Tyrols capital Bozen to the Edelweiss garage in Mieming where we retourn our bikes before we head back to Seefeld, where we started our tripp.

Reaching the end of a tour is always a bit sad, but at least we are having another great day on the bikes going over the Penser Joch, the Jaufen Pass and finaly the Timmelsjoch as another hightlight on this wonderfull tour.

Stuart, our volunteer at todays briefing.

Cloudy weather up on the Penser Joch.

Time to warm up with some coffee and cake.

For lunch we stopped at the famous Sandwirt, birthplace of Andreas Hofer.

Apart from riding our visit to the motorcycle museum on top of the Timmelsjoch was another hightlight today. What a collection of historic motorcycles and cars.

It is! It reaally is: the man, the legend is back in the Alps.

Some say he has no fear of wheels, be it two or three. Some say three sometimes fall over at a standstill, weirdly, but that's a friction issue.

He is Bill Pollack. Everywhere he goes, his Alps fans start screaming. And they'd need to, what with that ear and all

Have fun dear Bill, looks like another great bunch there!

Thanks, Wim!!!

I’m on a C 400 X this time. I whined to Edelweiss, and they let me pick that one. I’m pretty sure I’m not slowing anyone down.

You in Africa now?

Was in Africa in April-May.
Will be back in Africa in November

But the bit in the middle will be spent on an Edelweiss motorcycle (not scooter .

Was on the Sweepers Heaven Eiffel Mountains tour last month (one for you, by the way! Would look the part on a C400 on that one!).
And getting ready to hit the Alps again now. Leaving home next week to meet our AMA Alps Challenge guests in Munich.

Life on the road, you know...
