This district on the north-western edge of L.A. would be a normal suburb if a film producer hadn't shot a film here in 1910. Word quickly spread that it was better to shoot films in sunny Southern California than in dark New York. As early as 1915, the majority of American films were shot here, and since the 1920s Hollywood has been the centre of the world's film industry.
One of the most famous sights is the Walk of Fame, a pavement several blocks long, which is currently (as of Oct. 2022) adorned with 2,736 stars. Each star is dedicated to a personality who played or plays an important role in the American entertainment industry. A photo with the star of your favourite star is, of course, a must. At the "Chinese Theatre", the most famous cinema in the world, or more precisely in its forecourt, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks left their hand and footprints in concrete slabs in April 1927. More than 200 film stars have been added since then and the list is growing ...

The first human beings came to Baja California almost 11.000 years ago from the north. Different tribes arrived later and formed small settlements. In the center of the Peninsular the tribes were hunter-gatherers, those at the coast lived from the ocean. The Spanish came to the zone around 1539 exploring the Gulf of California and the Pacific coast. Their first settlement was the Jesuit mission in Loreto.

The ruins of Palenque are some of the most spectacular among the entire Mayan world. The city flourished between 630 AD to 740 AD, most of the time under the ruler Pakal who lived to an extraordinary (at the time) age of 80. Pakal was nicknamed Escudo Solar and was represented therefore with hieroglyphs of sun and shield. Its own mausoleum Templo de las Inscripciones is simply astonishing, with fine stucco bas-reliefs. Palenque started to decline in the tenth century and it remained unknown to the Western world until 1746.

This colonial city is located directly next to some interesting Aztec and Zapotec ruins. Very close to the city you can find the archeological site of Monte Alban. Spanish conquistadors founded the city in 1529 and deployed the land to Spanish settlers. Although the city was struck by major earthquakes, you can find unique colonial architecture from churches to administrative buildings.

Located next to the old capital of the Aztec empire (Tenochtitlan) the high cultures´ natives called them the holy mountains. The Spanish invaders founded several monasteries at the footsteps of the still active volcanos. The Aztecs called them “popōca” for “smoke” and ”tepētl” for “mountain” and that is true until today: it's a still active volcano. Last active phase in 2015 resulted in an 3000m (9843ft) high ash cloud.

Antigua is definitely a must-see spot in Guatemala. High on the hills and backed by giant volcanos, the town offers a vibrant life, picturesque and well preserved colonial streets, a spring-like weather for most of the year and plenty of adventure activities in the surrounding. Dozens of good Spanish language schools bring a global hub flair to this already spectacular town. So close to the capital Guatemala City, yet so far with its super relaxed attitude.

The present center of Panama City is located about 8 km southwest of where the city was founded in 1519. Even then it was an important trading center from which Inca treasures were shipped to Spain. After its destruction in 1671, it did not regain international importance until the canal was built in 1914.
The country's liberal tax policies, combined with the establishment of major banks, have made it an important international banking center since the late 1970s.

Granada was named by Hernández de Córdoba after the ancient Spanish city of the same name to honor the defeat of the last Moorish stronghold, which had been Spanish Granada, by the Catholic King and Queen of Spain. Granada, Nicaragua was historically the sister capital in Central America to Antigua, Guatemala.
During the colonial period, Granada maintained a flourishing level of commerce with ports on the Atlantic Ocean, through Lake Nicaragua (a.k.a. Cocibolca) and the San Juan River.
The city has been witness and victim to many of the battles with and invasions by English, French and Dutch pirates trying to take control of Nicaragua. It is also where William Walker, the American filibuster, took up residence and attempted to take control of Central America as a ruling president. One of Walker's generals, Charles Frederick Henningsen, set the city ablaze before escaping, destroying much of the ancient city and leaving behind the printed words "Here was Granada".
For many years Granada and León vied for dominance as the major city of Nicaragua. Granada was favored by the Conservatives, while Léon was favored by the Liberals. For many years there was sometimes quite violent conflict between the cities' families and political factions. In the mid-19th century, a compromise was reached and the capital was finally established between the two cities, at Managua. More recently, Granada avoided much of the tumult of the Sandinista Era in the 1970-80s.
