Erding... launch site The “Best of Europe” tour, with its over 30,000 inhabitants, is best known for its Erdinger beer... This time our participants consist of 8 Chinese. All real motorcycle fans and therefore a great group for this wonderful tour. During the presentation and handover of the motorcycle there was a big smile on everyone's faces. Tomorrow we start a wonderfully varied tour from Germany via France, Switzerland and Liechtenstein... on to Austria and back to Munich.
We left Erding on a beautiful sunny morning, ideal weather for riding!
We first rode through the Hallertau, the largest contiguous hop-growing area in the world, and later followed the river Altmühl, a tributary of the Danube. We reached the beautiful town of Eichstätt just in time for lunch and, after that, we cound not miss another stop in Dinkelsbühl. But today's highlight was definitely our final destination, Rothenburg, the best preserved medieval city of Germany. So we reached the hotel, went for dinner and then went exploring the town with a guided walk! A long and great day!
Another start under the blazing sun in Rothenburg over 186 km to Heidelberg. Today there are several castles and abbeys on the program. The first: we see Langenburg Castle (luckily without witches!!!) after 32 km. There we also visit the car museum before we drive to Schöntal Monastery. In the first part we follow the Jagst river for a long time, later it is the Neckar's turn. Domenico provided lunch at a lovely picnic spot. In the afternoon we continue through the picturesque landscape of the Neckar and see the wine growing at Hornberg Castle... Another 45 minutes further we reach the last castle on this tour: Hirschhorn Castle, a medieval castle with a beautiful view over the Neckar valley. Of course we have to take a photo here and make one last coffee stop! The university town of Heidelberg is now not far away. Our Hotel Königstuhl is ideally located on the top of the mountain, about 450 meters above the city. We take the old cog railway to the old town for a nice walk and a good meal.
Today we left Heidelberg via highway to save some time for the nice roads in the Black Forest. From Ettlingen, we climbed up along the Albtal valley to Bad Herrenalb where we stopped for a tasty coffee.
Today we found many detours along the way, but apart from making the journey longer, each road is great in this region so we enjoyed an amazing ride today! Riding through woods and pretty villages, we finally reached the Rhine valley and, once crossed the river, we entered France. Ribeauvillé is located just a few kilometres after the border, and we are going to spend two nights here!
Today was planned to be a rest day, but everyone still wanted to get back on the motorcycle. Some opted for culture and a smaller tour. Others preferred a brisk tour through the mountains and over passes. A visit to the Haut Koenigsbourg Castle was on everyone's agenda. We then split up the groups and Noel set off with several people on a challenging tour over the Pass de Bonhomme and Lac Blanc to Munster. We then continued to Colmar via the Col de la Schlucht. What a crowd... but it was worth it... we had a delicious lunch and enjoyed the tourist spot. We got back to the hotel via small, exciting streets... time for a little rest. In the evening the whole group went to the restaurant l'ami Fritz...delicious...
Three countries on our list today, France, Germany and Switzerland! The weather was simply perfect for motorcycle riding, sunny but not too hot. We left Ribeauville and headed first to Colmar before finally leaving France and entering Germany, where we rode through the Black Forest again and reached a "secret spot" where Noel had prepared a delicious picnic! From there, the border to Switzerland was not far, so we quickly reached Schaffhausen but before reaching the hotel we could not miss a visit to Europe's biggest waterfall!
4 countries are on the program today... Departure from Switzerland, briefly through Germany, then back via Switzerland to Liechtenstein to arrive in Austria. We start the day comfortably along Lake Constance/Lake Constance and enjoy the beautiful landscape, which is particularly known for the many types of fruit growing there and the good wines. The afternoon stop and highlight for today is definitely the Säntis. At over 2,500 meters it towers over this mountain region. We take the cable car and enjoy the wonderful view at the top in peace and quiet. Before we drive the last 3 hours up the Furkajoch along numerous winding roads, we of course stock up on a few Swiss souvenirs. A last coffee with Charly and then we continue to the idyllic mountain village of Warth in the Lechtah Alps.
Rain and more rain on our final riding day! Today we rode into the Lech valley and reached Reutte where we stopped for a "warm" coffee break. Soon after that we left Austria and entered Germany, where we stopped at the wonderful Ettal monastery, had lunch and then continued to Erding, where we immediately took a hot shower before our farewell dinner!
