Alps Riding Academy 6AA
Italy
Let us tune your riding skills!
The alpine mountain roads – you may have heard of them, seen pictures or have been here before. They are outstanding in their natural beauty and the mostly unspoilt connected network of countless dream roads. This region truly is “a riders’ paradise”; attracting bikers from all over! Yet, the beauty of it may soon change into challenge, especially for those riders who ride such mountainous terrain for the very first time and are confronted with unfamiliar local traffic rules. Switch-back turns, hairpins, narrow single lane roads – they are all great fun, if only you know how to safely ride them. Listening to our guests, we realized that many of our customers would appreciate an opportunity to ride in this unique surrounding while enhancing their riding skills at the same time. For this reason we have set up a number of 5 day training courses to assist riders at any skill level make their next motorcycle tour a relaxed one by taking the edge off the challenge. In the Alps our RIDING ACADEMY does just that! We teach you about the most appropriate riding techniques; how to find a safe and fluid line, tailored to a challenging riding environment. At the end of the week you should feel more comfortable on your bike and look forward to the next challenging roads.
Did you ever ask yourself the following questions?
- What’s the best cornering style for hairpins?
- Which style for corners with a wide radius?
- What are the advantages and disadvantages of various cornering techniques?
- How to brake in curves?
- What is a good line in blind corners?
- Which line in tight hairpins?
- Which one on very narrow roads?
- How to make sure not to run wide?
- How to deal with decreasing radius curves?
- How do I brake downhill in the rain on slippery asphalt?
- How to deal with narrow, curvy, unlit tunnels?
After having completed the Riding Academy you will know how to answer the above questions!
This is how it works:
We will start by practicing basic riding skills at low speeds, challenging balance and coordination, in a closed environment. Once on the ride, we will frequently change positions within the group. We will take day trips from our hotel, in addition to doing a two-day excursion to further extend our training on different roads. The mountain roads offer us a variety of challenging tarmac and enable us to thoroughly investigate the strengths of various riding techniques. Extremely technical mountain pass roads with tight switchbacks will favour an approach quite different from that required by sweeping curves.

Become a better and safer rider!
“After this extensive training, you will look forward to every narrow and twisty pass road and will enjoy it to the utmost. Edelweiss‘ Riding Academy instructors have hundreds of riding day experience in the mountains, by all weather conditions: sunshine, heavy rain and sometimes even snowstorms. At this training, you can bring along your partner! While you hone
your abilities, your partner can enjoy the services of the 4-star hotel and the stunning landscape.”

I have just attended the Alps Riding Academy with Christian Preining and I have so much to tell. First, the training was excellent and my riding skills improved so much that even the other training guests were amazed by my progress. Second, I want to mention the riding instructor, Christian, who is amazing and a real gentleman. In addition to being a professional rider, he is easy-going, easy to approach, and honest and transparent. The course was simply perfect and the training units, locations and breaks were all very well planned. All in all, I truly enjoyed myself - it has been the trip of a lifetime for me. Of course, I had high expectations about this training, but my experience has been so much more than I anticipated. I would like to do the training again and will try to get a seat in 2015.

Prior to joining the Edelweiss Alps Riding Academy I have also taken the Andalusia Tour with this company. I have been riding motorcycles (BMW, Suzuki and Harley-Davidson) since 1995. I even attended the California Super Bike Training in Dubai, so I was bit skeptic about attending another bike training. On the first day of the training however, I quickly realized that this program was different and unique, just by meeting our instructor Christian (I nicknamed him Captain Smiley). By the end of the first day I knew I am working with professionals and the program was so amazing that every night I would look forward to the next day. Also, accommodation was second to none. By the end of the training, I just felt so much more confident riding my GS and tight mountain passes became my favorite. This was not just a motorcycle training, it was the Edelweiss Bike Travel style of riding motorcycles. Bravo!

The Alps Riding Academy was the most fun and formative motorcycle training I have ever had. Christian is both a skillful instructor and a wonderful guide. He made the experience a truly great motorcycle experience for everyone in the group. From the classroom and track to the constantly winding mountain roads and tracks I gained a heightened level of confidence.
